“To me, the most important part of the recording process is you, the artist. Your vision, comfort level and happiness are way more important than my ‘technical’ concerns. I want you to do ‘you’ and it’s my job to facilitate and capture that, not get in the way of that!”
AUDIO - FIRST UP: here is a playlist including a selection of songs I’ve recorded. I produced, engineered, and mixed all of these (and mastered most of them, too).
SESSION PLAYING - As well as producing these songs, many of them include me playing various instruments too (piano, guitar, drums, bass) .
I charge £18.75 an hour, and this is based on an 8 hour day being £150.
SOME IMPORTANT POINTS:
Payment is made ON THE DAY at the end of the session. I have a SumUp card reader OR accept Bank Transfer. NO cash or cheques or ‘pay later’.
I use a program called ‘Timing’ to keep a track of sessions that you can’t be present for, like mixing, for example, and that is also charged by the hour. I say this because some people think they only pay for the tracking and oftentimes the mixing can easily take as long, if not, longer than tracking! So please budget for that.
I’m no longer doing any Album/EP ‘deals’ BUT this way you only pay for what you do or have done. I also ALWAYS round down, so if your do 5 hours 12 mins, for example, you’ll only pay for 5 hours; these are rounded DOWN to the closest hour or half hour.
THE STUDIO & LOCATION - The studio is located on Shamrock Quay marina in Southampton, near to St Mary’s Stadium. I can provide exact details of how to get here and location within the marina once booked. Parking is free for the whole day (I have a swipe card to use on exit).
I use Logic Pro and an M1 Mac. I have access to a wealth of plugins and mics and equipment. I’m happy to use as much or as little of your equipment as you desire - you could even turn up with nothing and use all of mine! I share the space with another producer and some chart hits have been recorded here so the equipment is top of the line. Here are a coupe of photos of the space:
